Adults 21 and older may legally purchase cannabis from state-licensed retailers. Since January 1, 2024, Nevada increased the daily transaction and possession limits to up to 2.5 ounces of cannabis and ¼ ounce of concentrates. Retailers may serve both adult-use and medical customers under consolidated rules set by the Cannabis Compliance Board (CCB).
Where you can (and can’t) consume
Consumption is allowed only on private property with the owner’s permission or inside a state-licensed consumption lounge. Public use—including on streets, sidewalks, parks, or in moving vehicles—is prohibited. Both the CCB and the City of Las Vegas emphasize this bright line.
Nevada has begun rolling out regulated consumption lounges under Regulation 15, which sets sanitation, hours, product, and on-site use rules. Alcohol is not permitted, and products may not leave the premises. Lounges may only admit guests 21 and older.
Hotels, casinos, and federal law
Even though cannabis is legal under Nevada law, it remains illegal under federal law. Because Nevada’s casino industry is tightly regulated and federally banked, resort properties generally prohibit cannabis possession and any consumption on-site. Casinos continue a strict “hands-off” posture, and consumption remains prohibited on licensed gaming properties.
Driving, vehicles, and open containers
Driving while impaired by cannabis is illegal. Nevada law also establishes per-se THC blood limits used in DUI cases (2 ng/ml THC; 5 ng/ml 11-OH-THC metabolite), and enforcement against impaired driving is a priority. Neither drivers nor passengers may consume in a moving vehicle, and purchased products must remain sealed and out of reach.
Delivery, the Strip, and “where can it come to me?”
Licensed delivery is legal in Clark County, but deliveries to the Las Vegas Strip resort corridor remain restricted. Lawmakers recently considered changes to address illicit delivery activity on the Strip, though those proposals did not advance. Visitors should order only from licensed retailers to approved addresses outside the resort corridor.
Home cultivation (locals only, with limits)
Adults may grow at home only if they live more than 25 miles from a licensed retail store. Plants must be secured, out of public view, with a maximum of six plants per adult and twelve per household. Within the Las Vegas metro area, most residents live within the 25-mile radius and therefore may not home-grow.
Other practical reminders
Crossing state lines with cannabis is illegal, and cannabis is not allowed on federal land such as Lake Mead or Red Rock Canyon. Penalties for public consumption are misdemeanors; always review posted property rules and local ordinances before use. City and county websites, as well as CCB guidance, remain the most reliable resources for updates.
Bottom line: Buy only from licensed Nevada retailers, keep quantities within the 2.5-ounce and ¼-ounce limits, consume only in private settings or licensed lounges, never use in vehicles or on the Strip’s public ways, and assume casinos and federal areas are off-limits.
